Eat Out. Fight AIDS!

Dining Out For Life brings New Yorkers a chance to eat out and fight AIDS on Thursday April 26, 2018. This year’s DOFL in New York City will benefit The Alliance for Positive Change. [A&U, March 2018, Brandon Lee].

Created in Philadelphia in 1991 by an Action Wellness (formerly ActionAIDS) volunteer in Philadelphia, DOFL has grown into an annual international fundraising event produced in more than 60 cities throughout the United States and Canada. On the last Thursday in April, diners across the U.S. and Canada eat out at their favorite participating restaurant and a percentage of their bill is donated to a local HIV/AIDS service organization.

More than 3,000 restaurants across North America donate a portion of their proceeds from this one day of dining to a designated AIDS service agency in their city. DOFL has raised more than $4 million dollars each year, helping to fund the work of sixty-plus HIV/AIDS organizations providing direct services that benefit more than 100,000 people living with HIV/AIDS and an additional 500,000 people at risk of contracting HIV. All money raised in these cities stays local. In New York City, the event will support the HIV/AIDS programs and services of The Alliance for Positive Change.

The Alliance for Positive Change serves New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses. They assist with access to medical care, managing and overcoming addiction, escaping homelessness, returning to work, and finding community. The Alliance’s full-service, individualized approach and harm reduction philosophy addresses the issues that underlie poor health, helping New Yorkers lead healthier, more self-sufficient lives.
