AIDS Run & Walk Chicago 2020

AIDS Run & Walk Chicago 2020 Returns Saturday, October 3, 2020

The 19th annual AIDS Run & Walk Chicago will occur on Saturday, October 3, 2020, in the Windy City. This year’s event will feature 5K and 10K runs and a 5K walk. The theme for AIDS Run & Walk 2020 is “Forward Together,” uniting participants to look “beyond our current state and focusing on what we do to create a better future for people living with HIV and AIDS.”

The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 3, at historic Soldier’s Field with the arrival of team captains and sponsors. The 5K and 10K runs will begin at 10:35, and the 5K walk will step off at 10:50. Closing ceremonies will begin at 12:00 noon.

Money raised through the AIDS Run & Walk Chicago will benefit the AIDS Foundation Chicago (AFC) and more than thirty partner organizations which provide much needed support and services for the HIV community of the Chicago area. These organizations are involved in the Getting to Zero Illinois program, an ambitious state-wide plan to end new HIV transmissions in Illinois by 2030.

Since the very first AIDS Run & Walk Chicago in 2001, the event has drawn more than 22,000 participants and raised more than $6 million in the fight against AIDS.

In light of “social distancing” and shelter-in-place rules, AFC is actively monitoring updates from local and state health agencies regarding precautions against the spread of the novel coronavirus; they will continue to assess what additional measures, if any, may be needed to ensure participant safety. AFC is developing contingency plans in case the event needs to be reimagined, as so many other fundraisers have had to do since March of this year.
