Meet Slim, twenty-one, and Angelikah, twenty-five. He’s from Lusaka, Zambia. She’s from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He’s an up-and-coming DJ and music producer; she’s a college student. Worlds apart, they share one bond—a positive serostatus. In a new documentary, Me, Myself & HIV, both share their stories of getting tested for HIV and what happened after getting their results and how they navigate the world of work, friends, and dating in the age of AIDS.

Produced by MTV Networks International’s Staying Alive Campaign and Firecracker Films, the hour-long TV documentary will air on MTV’s global network of sixty-three channels in 159 countries worldwide on December 1, World AIDS Day.

“Coming to terms with being HIV positive was very hard at first, but since I have had it, it has helped me change my life,” said Angelikah, the female subject of the documentary. “You could say it has saved my life rather than destroyed it because it’s given me a purpose. I am now studying and I know what I want to do with my life. I hope that people will see from my story that getting tested is not the end of their life, but the just beginning of a different one.”

Slim, the male subject, remarked, “Being honest about my status was a really nerve wracking experience but it has changed my life. I hope that by talking openly about it through my music and with my girlfriend, I am able to inspire others to do the same. Stay positive about your future if you are positive and don’t be negative if you are negative.”

Me, Myself & HIV seeks to erase the stigma and misinformation surrounding HIV/AIDS and encourages youth to speak openly about HIV and sexual health.
In the U.S., the documentary will premiere on MTV at 2:00p.m. ET/PT and mtvU at 6:00 p.m. ET/PT on Wednesday, December 1st.
