Almost Elton John: AAP–Food Samaritans’ Evening Under the Stars Gala
AAP–Food Samaritans (AAP) will present their 27th Annual Evening Under the Stars gala featuring the music of Elton John in a show titled “Almost Elton John,” starring Craig A. Meyer and the Rocket Band, on Saturday, May 2, 2020, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the O’Donnell Golf Club in Palm Springs, California.
Evening Under the Stars is the largest annual fundraiser for AAP–Food Samaritans, a non-profit organization that provides nutritional support for low-income people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses in the Coachella Valley. For twenty-eight years, AAP–Food Samaritans of Palm Springs has provided nutritional support to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, heart and liver diseases, and other chronic illnesses. As HIV/AIDS continues to be a major health challenge in the Coachella Valley, AAP improves the quality of life of those who need it the most, helping clients live healthier lives with dignity and self-respect.
“Each year we bring a fascinating entertainer to our stage, and this year we are elated to celebrate the music of Sir Elton John,” Mark Anton, CEO/Executive Director of AAP–Food Samaritans, said in a press release. “This event is not only a great fundraiser, it’s also a great show, and it’s sure to be an extraordinary night. We hope everyone will get into the spirit of the music and dress in attire reflecting the glam/posh movement epitomized by Elton John and David Bowie. Channel your inner Elton!”
Gala festivities will begin with a sunset cocktail hour on the grounds of the O’Donnell Golf Club against a backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains. A short awards program will recognize inspirational honorees (to be announced), followed by a dinner, dancing, and the stage show starring Craig A. Meyer. Tickets for the benefit, at $395 and $500 per person, as well as individual VIP seats and sponsorships, are available for purchase now.
In previous years, AAP’s Evening Under the Stars has been headlined by Gladys Knight, Barry Manilow, Cyndi Lauper, Lily Tomlin, Mary Wilson, The B-52s, The Go-Go’s, Darlene Love, Martha Wash, and the iconic Village People. This year’s headliner, Craig A. Meyer has garnered fame in theatre, film, television, and music. He has graced the Broadway stage (Cats, Starlight Express), and television (Will & Grace, General Hospital, Fernwood 2nite); his theater credits also include working with Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin) and Sir Elton and Tim Rice (The Lion King). His celebration of the character, costumes, and charisma of Sir Elton has captivated audiences throughout the United States and abroad.
