Patti Labelle to Headline PRC’s “Mighty Real” Gala
Long-time LGBTQ and HIV community ally Patti LaBelle [A&U, June 2005] will headline “Mighty Real,” PRC’s annual fundraising gala, on Saturday, November 7, at 6:00 p.m.
Founded in 1987, PRC has served people of the San Francisco Bay Area for decades, providing assistance to those affected by HIV/AIDS, substance use, or mental health issues. Those services include emergency financial assistance for short-term security; legal representation for access to basic income and healthcare benefits; and residential treatment, supportive housing, and employment training for longer-term social rehabilitation. Since merging with the AIDS Emergency Fund and Baker Places, Inc., PRC’s interconnected services help over 5,000 clients per year achieve long-term stability and success. “Mighty Real” is one of PRC’s major sources of funding.
Like hundreds of other events this year, Mighty Real has been forced to morph into an online streaming event. Participants can choose from three options:1) Dinner and Show (San Francisco and Oakland residents only; package includes the livestreamed show, online auction, and a three-course meal prepared by Absinthe Brasserie & Bar and a half-bottle of wine delivered to their homes; $200); 2) The Out-of-Towner (for participants outside San Francisco and Oakland; package includes the livestreamed show and a $50 gift certificate valid at any Absinthe Group restaurant; $200); and 3) Tune-in Only (participants will have exclusive access to the livestreamed event, online auction, and more; $100). Virtual “tables” are also available.
Mighty Real promises “An Intimate Evening with Patti LaBelle,” the Grammy Award-winning singer who has been thrilling live audiences and has sold over 50-million records since the 1970s. Ms. LaBelle will also receive PRC’s “Sylvester Community Pillar” Award as part of the celebration in recognition of her many years of supporting LGBTQ and HIV communities. In a promotional video, Ms. LaBelle promises that participants will “have a lot of fun! I’m going to be there with all my costumes, my hair, and my voice!”
“How fortunate are we to get to spend a beautiful fall evening with the incomparable Patti LaBelle as we gather virtually this year to support those in need across San Francisco,” said PRC CEO Brett Andrews in a press release. “This has been a trying year for everyone, so we’re thankful for the opportunity to bring some musical light to everyone’s lives. Ms. LaBelle is the epitome of both compassion and glamour, and we’re looking forward to our time together. I’m already dancing.”
